Purchase or subscribe for plugins|Choose based on annual cost and update risk

Plug-in subscriptions allow you to use many products for a small amount, but in the long term they may be more expensive than outright purchases. We make decisions based not only on price, but also on the continuity of production and the number of pieces required.

Case where subscribing is suitable

This is suitable if you want to try out many products for a short period of time, the tools you need change depending on your job, or if you always want to use the latest version. It has the advantage of reducing initial installation costs and being widely used for learning purposes.

Case where outright purchase is suitable

It is suitable if you only use a small number of products, want to maintain the same environment for a long time, or do not want to increase monthly fixed costs. However, please check for paid upgrades and maintenance fees associated with OS updates.

1|Calculate the total amount for three years

Compare not only the monthly amount, but also the total amount for three years, including the annual fee, renewal fee, and sale price. Divide by the number of products you actually use each week to help determine the value per product.

2|Can you open the project after canceling?

If you unsubscribe, plugins may be disabled for past sessions. For important tasks, export the stems, save the settings screen, and prepare alternative methods.

3|Co-production compatibility

Co-creators must have the same contract to share sessions as is. Decide how to convert tracks using plug-ins into audio.

4|Are there more products you don't use?

It is attractive to be able to use hundreds of options, but having too many options slows down decision-making. Look at your monthly usage history and consider purchasing individual products if you actually use fewer products.

5|Authentication and offline use

Check whether an Internet connection is required, how many days it can be used offline, the number of devices used, and the cancellation procedure. This is important for live performances and on-site productions.

The conclusion cannot be determined just by comparing the sound quality of one track. My priorities are to not stop production, to be able to reproduce past songs, and to be able to maintain fixed costs reasonably. Even in affiliate articles, it will be helpful for readers to make decisions if you clearly state not only the discount rate but also the cancellation terms and long-term costs.
